Some years ago, I came in contact with a boy who was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. It affected his ability to walk properly, hold objects and chew food substances. To my surprise, he also exhibited some traces of Autism like repetitive behaviour pattern, poor social skills and lack of speech and language.
Due to his condition, he had no potty skills and he could not feed himself at the age of 6. Everything about his situation brought pain to the heart of his parents. I saw hope escape from the heart of his parents like a vapour. Their tears became their companions at all times. They were troubled about his future and wondered if he was ever going to be independent in life. Uncertainty stared at them in the eyes. Everything looked dark.
Today, the boy's story hasn't changed but he was empowered with coping strategies. He was taught to read without speech, write without holding a pencil or pen. This was long before modern technological tools came into existence. GET READY TO FIND OUT!
